The Purus Filtrotech Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) Exhaust System is an industrial air pollution control device primarily used for high-efficiency removal of fine particulate matter, such as smoke, dust, and oil mist, from an exhaust gas stream.
Here is an overview of its function, typical applications, and available specifications:
How the ESP System Works
An Electrostatic Precipitator uses electrical forces to separate particulate matter from the gas stream. The general process involves three main steps:
Charging: As the polluted air or exhaust gas passes through the unit, it enters a section with high-voltage discharge electrodes. These electrodes create a corona discharge, which ionizes the gas molecules (creating ions). The particulate matter (smoke, dust, mist) collides with these ions and acquires a strong electrical charge, typically negative.
Collection: The charged particles are then attracted to and migrate toward grounded (positively charged) collecting plates. The particles adhere to these plates.
Cleaning (Rapping/Washing): Periodically, the collected particulate layer must be removed. In a dry ESP, a mechanical rapping system vibrates the plates to dislodge the dust into a hopper. In a wet ESP, the plates are washed with water.

Key Features
High Efficiency Filtration: ESPs are highly effective at removing sub-micron particles, which are often the most harmful and difficult to filter with conventional media filters.
Low Operating Cost: Once the dust is collected, it requires no expensive filter media replacement (unlike cartridge or bag filters). Cleaning is done via mechanical rapping or washing.
Low Pressure Drop: The open nature of the electrode plates means the system minimally impedes the gas flow, resulting in low power consumption for the fan/blower and high air capacity.
Robust Design: Suitable for harsh industrial environments, including high temperatures and continuous operation.
Oil and Dry Fumes Application: Purus Filtrotech specifically offers models for both dry particulate (dust/smoke) and oil/liquid mist collection.
Purus Filtrotech provides a range of these systems, including large industrial units and smaller electrostatic air cleaners for specific process lines.
